Mastering Modern Calligraphy picks up where my first book leaves off. It is the perfect companion for pointed pen and digital calligraphers alike, with more than 2,700 letterforms and ligatures, stroke drills, warm-up exercises, flourishes, and simple words and phrases.

With targeted exercises and lessons aimed at pushing you out of your calligraphy comfort zone, Mastering Modern Calligraphy will not only help you master tricks of the trade, but develop your very own modern calligraphy style, too. This beautiful, in-depth guide to modern calligraphy emphasizes experimentation and fun, rather than rigid uniformity.

About the author:

Molly’s work is a combination of modern, pointed pen calligraphy and digital hand lettering. She is credited as a driving force behind the modern calligraphy movement and achieved renown for her book, Modern Calligraphy: Everything You Need to Know to Get Started in Script Calligraphy (St. Martin’s Griffin, 2013).

Since 2009, Molly has created custom hand lettering for clients including Google Arts & Culture, Michael Kors, Martha Stewart, Lonely Planet, and Fendi. Her work has been featured in The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, Martha Stewart Weddings, Los Angeles Times, Country Living, and Buzzfeed.

She is also the author of three books about calligraphy. Her first, Modern Calligraphy: Everything You Need to Know to Get Started in Script Calligraphy (St. Martin’s Press, 2013), is a beginner’s guide covering the basics of pointed pen calligraphy. The second, The Calligrapher's Business Handbook (2017), is a guide for crafting a thriving freelance career out of hand lettering. Her newest book, Mastering Modern Calligraphy (St. Martin’s Griffin, October 2019) picks up where her first leaves off. It is an in-depth guide to modern calligraphy and the perfect companion for pointed pen and digital calligraphers alike.

Molly also loves to teach! In addition to teaching in-person calligraphy workshops, Molly also bears the badge of Top Teacher on the Skillshare platform, with over 16,000 students and 700,000 minutes of watch time.

In 2016 Molly founded Calligrafile.com, a curated database of resource links and products for calligraphers, hand lettering artists, type enthusiasts, and creative freelancers.

Molly graduated from UCLA’s Design Communication Arts program in 2009 with a concentration in typography and layout design. Prior to that, she studied art history, comparative literature, and creative writing at The American University of Paris.

Today, Molly lives in Athens, Greece, with her partner and their incorrigible cat Marlowe.
